Things that happened

Bird flu (avian influenza) came to Romania in octomber 2005. It was a national crisis, birds were killed because it was thought that they are infected with this virus, and people were afraid that they might get it. All over the country birds from farms and peoples ranches were slaughtered and burnt. Romania was the first country from Europe where the virus was officially found, in Ceamurlia de Jos, Tulcea(my district).
My district is separated from other districts by the Danube and we had to cross it with the ferry. When we got ashore we had to drive our cars through a puddle of water, wich was said that if you do that, your car is clean and you would not carry the H5N1 virus and infect other birds.
About the people that died in my country there were many people infected, that's what they said at the news by that time, and now i was searching on google, and i did not find anything about people getting infected or dead. I think that in my country at least, this flu was a scam, a scam made by powerful people to get the market on birds to get high profit from it. I live in Tulcea and i have no knowledge of people getting infected, or getting sick from eating a chicken.

Swine flu is another disease that arrived in my country.

The thing is these are world wide flu, the media talked about them very much when they just arrived in my country. The media couldn't stop talking about this, at every news program you could see details about the flu, people infected, and other crap that were not true. And now in 2012 there is nothing about them, they forgot about it, it is like it never happened. I don't even know how they managed to save our country from them.
